Drive south on University Drive past Nova Southeastern's campus and the pattern is familiar enough to tune out. Strip plazas. A car wash. The same dry cleaner sign you've passed a thousand times. It is the road Davie residents use to get somewhere else, not a destination in its own right.
That assumption stopped holding up this month.
Between August 1 and September 15, the Town of Davie is running Savor Davie, its first-ever town-organized dining program. Independently, and in the same two weeks, two new food businesses opened or announced plans to open on that exact stretch of road. None of this was coordinated. That's what makes it worth noticing. When a town's first restaurant promotion and two unrelated business openings all land on the same half-mile of pavement within days of each other, it stops being a coincidence and starts being a signal about where Davie's food identity is actually consolidating.
The Corridor Nobody Names

Monster Burgers, a Colombian food-truck brand that spent fifteen years working festivals and breweries before opening its first brick-and-mortar location on August 1, sits at 2325 S University Dr. A few blocks south, Puffles, the Hong Kong-style bubble waffle and boba concept with existing locations in Hollywood Beach, Downtown Miami, and Hard Rock Stadium, has filed permits for a shop at 1855 S University Drive. Further down, Luc's Seafood & Grille anchors 5511 S University Drive, and Geronimos Grill and The Greek Joint Kitchen & Bar share a plaza at 5810 S University Drive.
None of these are chains chasing a highway exit. They're independent, family-run, or locally established operators choosing the same road within months of each other. If you've mentally filed University Drive under "the way to Nova" rather than "somewhere to eat," this is the month that assumption gets tested.
Savor Davie Is the Town's First Restaurant Week, and It Landed Here
The Town of Davie describes Savor Davie as an all-new dining initiative, its first, running from August 1 through September 15. Eight participating restaurants are each offering a fixed-price, three-course menu built around a starter, an entree, and a dessert or comparable third course. Menu prices vary by restaurant, and taxes and gratuity are charged separately.

Notice how many of the addresses on that list trace the same road as Monster Burgers and Puffles. This isn't the town spreading goodwill evenly across every commercial corner of Davie. The restaurants with confirmed street addresses sit almost entirely on University Drive, which means the town's own first attempt at a dining promotion ended up validating the same corridor two new independent businesses had already bet on.
For residents, the practical takeaway is straightforward: a three-course dinner at a place like Luc's now runs a known, fixed $60 rather than whatever the regular menu would add up to, and Geronimos Grill's $35 entry point makes trying somewhere new a lower-stakes decision than it would be on a normal Tuesday.
Two New Doors, Nine Days Apart
Monster Burgers opened its doors on August 1, nine days ago as of this writing. The restaurant is owned by two sibling couples, Julio Arcilla and Diana Montoya, and Claudia Montoya and Carlos Mosquera, who built the brand from a single food truck in 2011 into one of South Florida's more recognizable Colombian street food operations before finally putting down a permanent address. One of the owners told a local business outlet, "this was Julio's dream from the beginning, from the design to the menu, everything." The menu keeps the truck's original lineup, including the Monster Burger, an eight-ounce patty piled with bacon, mozzarella, crushed potato chips, and house sauces, plus Monster Dogs and a Colombian street food staple called maicito.
Puffles hasn't opened yet. As of a late June report, the company had filed permits for the University Drive location but hadn't posted a firm date, listing the shop as "coming soon" alongside planned locations in Pembroke Pines and New Jersey. Founded in 2017 by Caleb Deng, Puffles built its following on Hong Kong-style egg waffles loaded with ice cream and toppings, plus a menu of milk and fruit teas. For Davie residents who've had to drive to Hollywood Beach or downtown Miami for it, a University Drive location closes that gap.
The Institutions Staying Right Where They Are
Not everything worth doing in Davie this month is happening on University Drive, and it's worth separating what's actually shifting from what's simply continuing. The South Florida Folk & Acoustic Music Festival returns to Bergeron Rodeo Grounds August 14 through 16, four days from now, and it isn't part of any corridor trend. It's a standing weekend anchor doing what it always does. Flamingo Gardens, the 60-acre botanical and wildlife sanctuary that's operated since 1927, is running its new David Rogers' Big Bugs: The Pollinators outdoor sculpture installation through the year, another example of an established Davie institution adding programming rather than relocating anything.
The distinction matters. Yellow Green Farmers Market, Bergeron Rodeo Grounds, and Flamingo Gardens have always drawn Davie residents to their own corners of town, and none of that is changing. What's new is that when it comes specifically to trying a new restaurant, the decision increasingly points toward one road instead of a dozen scattered plazas.
