Waterford Park Is a Full-Day Park Again, and Davie's Court Map Just Split in Two

For most of the past year, Waterford Park was a park you could only use after 4 p.m. on a weekday. Starting October 13, 2025, the Town of Davie closed it from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays. Only the playground and shelter reopened in the late afternoon, and on weekends those two amenities ran from 9 a.m. to sunset. That stretch is now over. The town held a ribbon-cutting at Waterford Park on October 26, 2026. The park reopened with six new pickleball courts, two new tennis courts, LED lighting and a new asphalt trail.

The courts are the bigger story. Davie now has two public sites with six pickleball courts each, one at 15090 S. Waterford Drive and one at Bamford Sports Complex on South Pine Island Road. That changes where a weeknight game can happen, and it changes how the town's November calendar fits around it.

A Summer Deadline That Became an October Opening

When the town announced the weekday closures in its October 8, 2025 notice, the plan was specific. It called for new LED sports lighting, upgraded walking paths, new site furnishings, a rebuilt tennis court and six new pickleball courts, with completion "by summer 2026." The finished project came in on that list and then some. The town's October 22, 2026 release also lists resurfaced basketball courts, restored racquetball and volleyball courts, rebuilt sidewalks, irrigation repairs and new sod.

The project finished a season late, and the scale helps explain it. When the town put the reconstruction out to bid in 2025, it estimated the cost at $1,999,124. That was the bid's estimated budget, not a final contract figure. Even so, it's roughly four times the $500,000 total project cost in a 2023 state funding request for the park. That gap shows how much the plan grew between the first request and the rebuild that just opened.

The town's Waterford Park page calls it a five-acre neighborhood park and now lists daily hours of 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. During the closures, weekday play was squeezed into the hours after 4 p.m. Now the park is open for twelve hours every day, with new LED lighting over the courts.

Six Courts on Waterford Drive, Six on Pine Island Road

Before this month, the best-known public pickleball in town was at Bamford Sports Complex, also called Pine Island Park, at 3801 S. Pine Island Road. The local resource site Davie Pickleball lists six permanent outdoor courts there, free to the public. It also lists organized drop-in play on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5 to 8:30 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Those times come from a community guide rather than the town, so it's worth calling the town at 954-327-3941 before you plan a Saturday around them.

Waterford now has the same number of courts. The third option nearby is private. The David Posnack JCC at 5850 S. Pine Island Road says no reservations are needed for its pickleball courts and players bring their own equipment. Its tennis program has eight courts, four clay and four hard, and court time is booked by phone.

Where Address What's there Hours and access
Waterford Park 15090 S. Waterford Drive 6 new pickleball courts, 2 new tennis courts, basketball, racquetball, volleyball, new asphalt trail Park open daily 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; for court booking or fees, call Parks at 954-797-1145
Bamford Sports Complex / Pine Island Park 3801 S. Pine Island Road 6 permanent outdoor pickleball courts; tennis courts near the shelter Complex open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekends; community-listed drop-in Tue/Thu evenings and Sat mornings
David Posnack JCC 5850 S. Pine Island Road Pickleball courts; 8 tennis courts, 4 clay and 4 hard No reservations for pickleball; tennis booked by phone

The town's reopening release and Waterford's park page don't spell out court booking or fees. For those questions, the number to call is the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department at 954-797-1145. In practice, Waterford is now an evening option of its own for anyone on that side of town. Before, a pickleball game meant a drive to Pine Island Road.

The Pine Island Corridor Got Its Pool Back the Same Week

Waterford's return gives Davie a second hub, but the Pine Island Road corridor is still where most of the town's recreation sits. That corridor had its own reopening the same week. The Pine Island Aquatic Center at 3800 SW 92nd Avenue reopened on October 22, 2026, after repairs to the pool pump. The town said aquatic programs would resume as scheduled.

The posted hours suit early swimmers. The pool is open 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends, and the fitness center keeps the same schedule. If you have questions about lanes or programs, the Pine Island Fitness and Aquatic Center number is 954-327-3926.

Bamford's courts, the JCC and the aquatic center all sit within a short stretch of Pine Island Road and SW 92nd Avenue. The town also uses that same complex for its holiday tree lighting. In 2025, the Lighting of the Greens was held at Bamford Sports Complex/Pine Island Park and included the South Florida Trail Riders' Jingle Bell Horse Parade, according to Davie Today. As of Davie Today's October 8, 2026 update, the town had not announced a 2026 date.

How the Rest of November Fits Around the Courts

Pickleball is an evening and Saturday-morning sport, and the season ahead has fixed dates that compete for those same hours. In order:

  1. Thursday, November 5, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. The ramp from southbound I-75 to westbound Royal Palm Boulevard is closed. The detour runs west on Griffin Road, north on Weston Road, then west on Royal Palm. The town has set aside November 9 through 12 as backup nights, so check the town's closure notice before heading out on any of those evenings.
  2. Friday and Saturday, November 13 and 14, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, November 15, at 2 p.m. The Southeastern Circuit Finals come to Bergeron Rodeo Grounds, according to the Davie Pro Rodeo schedule.
  3. Saturday, November 14. The town's free gardening workshop at Davie Community Garden, 4005 S. Hiatus Road, covers plant nutrition. It's the first in a monthly series that runs through March 2027, with free admission and parking.
  4. Late November through December 30, 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Flamingo Gardens hosts Hoffman's Chocolates Winter Wonderland. Its events page lists both November 20 and November 21 as the opening night, so confirm before you buy tickets. The gardens are closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day and close at 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve, according to the Flamingo Gardens events page.
  5. Saturday, December 5. The second gardening workshop at the Hiatus Road garden covers palm care.

Two of these dates fall on Saturdays, which matters if your Saturday mornings are spent at Bamford's drop-in. The rodeo's Friday and Saturday shows start at 7:30 p.m., around the same time an evening game at Waterford would be wrapping up under the new lights.

Two Hubs, Different Ends of Town

The new courts change where things happen in Davie. For years, public courts, the town pool and the holiday tree lighting have all been concentrated around Pine Island Road. Now a five-acre park at 15090 S. Waterford Drive has the same pickleball court count as Bamford. It's open twelve hours a day, has new lighting, and has a new asphalt trail.

For residents near Waterford, that means a full day of access again after a year of 4 p.m. starts. For everyone else, it means a second public set of courts when Bamford's drop-in sessions are full. It also comes right after summer, the time of year when evenings outside start to make sense again. If you want to see how Davie's food scene has been settling along one corridor too, our look at University Drive covers it, and our Davie neighborhood guide has more on the rest of town.
